Who Can Play Wheelchair Rugby?

Anyone with a permanent physical disability who are unable to play running rugby.

“To be eligible to play the Paralympic discipline of wheelchair rugby, athletes must have an impairment which affects their arms and legs. Many athletes have spinal cord injuries, with full or partial paralysis of their legs and partial paralysis of their arms. Players with other impairments such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, amputations, polio, and other neurological conditions may also be eligible to play.”

“An individual must have a permanent physical disability which reduces the function of the lower limbs or upper limbs to a degree where they cannot run, pivot, throw, catch or jump at the speed and with the control, safety, stability and endurance required to play running able body rugby.”

The game is open to low point players classified into the Paralympic discipline of the game, this includes those players with the following classifications: 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5.
